Arcology: Daybreak by steve-burg Arcology: Daybreak by steve-burg
I wanted to develop a sequence of images depicting different stages in the Future History of an “Arcology” – defined as a complete city/habitat contained inside a single immense structure.

This seemed like a suitable theme to indulge in my long standing fascination with colossal scale and epic futurism.

The time is indeterminate, but let’s says it’s at least 1000 years from now. Here we see the city at its zenith, home to tens of millions. The whole thing is contained within a single immense dome 70 km in diameter. If necessary the dome can be sealed to protect it against threats from the outer world.

This is the first in a series of images that were originally created for the book “Concept Design II”, about 6 years ago now…

The entire scene was created in Lightwave 3D, with textures painted in Photoshop. The 3D render was modified in Photoshop to produce the final image.

The other images in this sequence will follow in short order :)

You certainly get those imaginations inhabitants of other dimensions and other planets with existing lives. I know you have a lot of talent in this kind of work, but if you believe in other people is certainly with the thoughts and ideas focused on this element type.

I've had some imaginations alike that when I woke up I did not want to return, are things that I do not know how to explain, but able to demonstrate in Art. But I do not have any tool to be able to express these views I have.

I really wanted to be able to draw so that neither you, Congratulations.

NOTE: (Google Translate) I'm from Brazil and unfortunately I can not speak English.

Awesome :). Thought you might like to know that I used this, and "Scholl", as partial inspiration (with credit and a linkback) of my description of an alien facility in my Mass Effect-related fanfic, here: [link].

Hi, I absolutely love your work, I imagine visions of the future all the time along with many other people around the world, and I can see similar scenes, there is a top quality website called which is full of conspiracy, Armageddon and end times prediction threads, hundreds of thousands of people use the message boards for civilised discussions every day, who are not artistic at all but they will connect with your artwork like it was one of there own visions, just as I have done.

I am putting together a thread for the website with an emphasis on the fact that if millions of people around the world have such vivid imagination, dreams and vision of the future, then surely looking beyond all the end of the world prophesy almost proves in a way that the future is still to come in one form or another.

I am asking you for your permission to feature your artwork along with around twenty other artists, on the site, in the thread, with strict instructions not to copy it, and with full recognition to you, so that people can appreciate the dreams and visions of others and perhaps look beyond the panic of the demise of the human race, with all the Armageddon discussion and be prepared to fight for a better way of life for all.

There is no financial gain or any other benefit for me or anyone else by doing this, it is simply to get exposure for your artistic vision, and help others take a look outside the box.

I won't feature your work without permission and I will link you to the thread if it is given.

Kind regards, Ed

to think that there's a city on top of another, reminds me of society where there is the rich and poor. Still, art is epic!
