Colony Landing Pad

This is part of a series. I wanted to depict a small agricultural colony that's just getting on its feet.

Currently, the 3D environment is far from finished, but far enough along to get an idea of where it's going. This is a "straight out of the box" render, with a single light for the sun. Aside from that, the scene is lit with global illumination.

I was inspired as much by the frontier towns of the Old West as by any science fiction we've seen. Perhaps the closest thing might be the colony seen in the film "Aliens".

The vehicles and structures would be light weight, modular, and built for efficiency and practicality.

Primarily, I wanted to capture the feeling of optimism I associate with the opening of a new frontier.

This view of the colony's main landing pad - located outside the town. The ship being unloaded here is a small cargo shuttle from a transport that must remain in orbit during its stopover.
