This is the background image shown (or should I say "hidden"?) behind the massive spaceship in the piece "View From Beneath" [link]

I liked how the planet turned out, so I thought it might be worth posting it by itself.

This view shows several moons in orbit around a colossal gas giant planet - which I call an "exo planet" because that is how planets in another star system are categorized.

This is a 3D scene with a modified Jupiter texture from the Celestia Motherlode [link] serving as the base for the gas giant.

The other textures are procedurally generated noise mixed with some generic "grunge" textures made in Photoshop a very long time ago now :D

Even though Jupiter looks pretty amazing with all the pretty clouds and storms, Saturn has always been my favourite gas giant. Saturn may be a bit dull in color, but the rings more than make up for it.

The texture is made from Jupiter - but I doubled it up to make a "Super Jupiter" gas giant. I'm not sure what the upper range is for these kinds of planets - I believe they've found a number of them that are substantially larger than our own.

I agree about Saturn. And I think the less dramatic color is covering the fact that Saturn is actually an extremely stormy place :D

WOW! I love Jupiter, looks like you could go through the picture and touch it. Just amazing, so clean and detailed. I wanna learn how to do this someday, I have this thing for planets and space. Great Job!!!!

Thanks! Actually, if you ever wanted to give making a planet a try, the site link in the text has a lot of great stuff on it. Celestia is free, and kind of fun especially if you start adding stuff into it :D
