This is just a quick composite test from an animation I was working on a while back. I never finished the scene, but some of the frames looked interesting so I thought I would post one :)

Lightwave 3D, Adobe After Effects

Edit: The ship here is a very early version of an aircraft that eventually made its way into "Tiberium" (which unfortunately was cancelled). It's actually a model I made for fun, but it seemed to lend itself to the game so I threw it into the mix and after a lot of development - and a reduction in its size - it became our main crew transport. The texture shown is much more recent.

It was a decision made at the top level of the company. I don't know all the details, but it was certainly a shock since we were not that far from having it completed. Most of the assets were completed, and about half the game was fully playable - basically finished. I think it had to do with the amount spent vs. what it would require to final the game and release it. It's a really long story, actually - I worked on that for over 3 years!

In other words, it's sounding to me like instead of releasing the game in it's current state and admitting that it was unfinished (Like what the company did for Star-Ruler) they just decided to cancel it, wasting all of that money already spent ON the game along with the time that everyone put into it.

Sometimes, I really hate upper management in companies who don't understand just how tough those below them have it.

It's hard to get too upset because the situation enabled us all to do some really good work. I consider it one of the greatest opportunities of my career. It seems strange for something with that level of quality to be discarded when there's so much junk out there.
In hindsight, the decision reminds me of the fable about the elephant who can't keep walking because there's a pebble in its' path.
