Yet another sketch...

At the moment, I seem to be experimenting a bit with 2D Photoshop techniques... :)

It's interesting to see figures in your work like this, doubly so in something so abstract. It's great how you've made the figures stand out so much without making them take too much of the spotlight, allowing the hardware to be the focal point too.

Thanks! I find adding figures helps make something that's basically completely unfamiliar have some frame of reference.

I need to do some stuff that focuses much more on figures - I've just been on a major "tech" binge lately... :)

They are good for that. I've seen that a lot of concept artists add generic human-sized figures in environment concepts to give a sense of scale and help the viewer understand the mood and all that. =p

So, in particular, what new techniques are you exploring with this one?

I'm rethinking how I work with layers in Photoshop, and I've begun using clipping masks in addition to custom shapes to speed things up. I get bored, and constantly try out new things. It might not be as evident in the resulting image (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) but it's very evident in the speed increase.

Coming from a traditional art background, I've had to "unlearn" a lot of things in order to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of digital media. When I open up old Photoshop files, I can see that my approach (under the hood) has mutated a great deal from just a few years ago. :)
