These are some concept sketches that I did for a television series - "Babylon 5" - in the early 1990s. I worked very closely with my friend Ron Thornton, who crafted the final version of the ship in 3D.
They show some of the development process for a featured "space fighter" design. The top drawing shows an early version, while the final approved sketch is shown at the bottom.
These drawings were done with Prismacolor pencil on a pad of 9" x 12" drafting vellum.
At that time, traditional drawings like this were really the only means available for doing concept art. I continue to make daily use of those skills, although now it is more for my own design process and is not usually presented to clients.
