This is another view of the ruined city shown in "The Silent Streets" [link]
I consider this a work-in-progress. This environment was made in fall of 2008 - but I hope to get back to it one of these days since there are many things I still want to add to the environment. Hopefully I'll get to finish this (and a lot of other things too) before the real "Apocalypse" hits
The foreground ridge of volcanic rock is retouched with a bit of painting and some photos of lava rock I took years ago on the island of Hawaii.
The sky is a texture from CG Textures (which I've noticed only allows linking to the main site, not a specific image) [link]
I use some fog, but I also render out a depth pass (black geometry, white fog) and use it to mask some extra glows and things I put in using Photoshop. (Basically, I make a custom Z-buffer)
I don't do much of that. The phony Z Buffer I make is based on the fog settings, which give me a lot of control over the effect. The last time I tried outputting frame buffers they were not anti-aliased - which of course makes them not terribly useful. (I understand this problem has been fixed)

Yeh, I hate that about CG Textures too... Great work my friend!

When Dreamers dare their dreams. Let them dare the Unknown.
If it says what you want, maybe its done?
If you add too much stuff, you can lose what you were saying.
Looks great.

I remember when I really was into nostalgia.
